The Hereafter

We live in a broken world. A world God Himself has already declared isn't good enough to keep us forever.

Think about it.

Every day, babies are born.
Every day, people die.

Then this thought crossed my mind and refused to let me sleep:

If human beings were immortal and no one ever died, what exactly would happen to the earth?

People would keep reproducing, generation after generation, with no one ever exiting. What would that even look like?

Overpopulation.

And then I wondered...

Could this be one of the reasons Jesus said that in the life to come, there will be no marriage? No marriage means no reproduction. No need to keep filling the earth.

I don't know.
I'm just thinking out loud.

But one thing I do know is this; death isn't something we should spend our lives being terrified of. It is one of the few certainties of life.

None of us is staying here forever.

For believers, death is not the end of the story. At the point of exit, death does not come as the ultimate victor because it has already been defeated.

Death has lost its sting.

That moment is less of a tragedy and more of a homecoming...

The Master; waiting with open arms.

Familiar faces among that great cloud of witnesses.

The end of our pilgrimage and the beginning of something far more glorious.

It is coming back home. And what a homecoming that will be!

So, embrace the truth that this world is temporary. Celebrate the hope that there is more beyond it. We are pilgrims passing through; this present world is not our home.

And honestly; in a world filled with pain, loss, injustice, heartbreak, and weariness; why would anyone want to live on this earth forever anyway?

Methinks:

We should welcome the home call like the breath of fresh air that it is!!
